Paul

Dr. Paul Hoseth is one of the most accomplished members of the Pacific Lutheran University athletic community. From 1968 to 2005, he was a professor (37 years), head track coach (14 years with five NAIA All-Americans and a national championship), and Dean of the School of Physical Education and Athletic Director (nine years).

Most famously, Hoseth served as assistant football coach and defensive coordinator for 28 years and was part of three NAIA National Championships (1980, 1987, 1993). During his tenure, PLU was 218-64-7 and won 13 conference championships where Paul coordinated the defensive side of the ball. Hoseth was Athletic Director when PLU won the NCAA Division III National Football Championship. He was named NCAA West Region Division III Athletic Director of the Year for 2000-01.

Hoseth is a member of the Two Harbors High School Athletic Hall of Fame (1997), the PLU Athletic Hall of Fame (2006), and the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame (2010). He was also a member of the NAIA national championship team at Concordia College, from which he graduated in 1966. Hoseth also holds a Masters from South Dakota State and a Ph.D. in Education from Oregon.

Paul made a point to include his entire family within his coaching career.  In season, he and his wife Jeanne hosted Tuesday night team meetings at their home.  Jeanne made and provided the entire defense homemade treats afterwards.  Their children earned degrees from PLU; Karl quarterbacked the Lutes and Marnie played basketball. https://www.crosstrainingpublishing.com/shop/i-played-for-frosty-celebrated-stories-of-faith-life-and-football
